GML- Geography Markup Language

What is .GML File Format and How to Open it?

The .GML file format is a text-based, XML-based format for storing geographic information. It stands for Geography Markup Language and is used to store geographic information such as the coordinates of points, lines, and polygons that make up a map or geographic representation. It is also used to store attributes associated with geographic features.

The GML file format is based on the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Extensible Markup Language (XML) standards. It is a portable, platform-independent format that can be used to exchange geographic information between applications and systems.

GML files can be opened using any text editor or XML viewer. Additionally, there are several software programs, such as ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, and gvSIG, that can open, view, and edit GML files. GML files can also be imported into various database software programs and GIS software programs for further analysis and manipulation.
