PEF- Pentax Electronic File

What is .PEF File Format?

A .PEF file is an image file stored in the RAW format developed by Pentax, a Japanese manufacturer of cameras and lenses. The RAW format stores unprocessed image data collected by the camera’s sensor, allowing photographers to edit the image with more control than they would have with a JPEG file.

In order to open and view .PEF files, you need to have a compatible image viewer or image editor installed on your computer. Popular image viewers such as Windows Photo Viewer, ACDSee, and IrfanView can all open .PEF files.

If you want to edit your .PEF files, you will need to use a more advanced image editor such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or Paint Shop Pro. These applications will allow you to make adjustments to the image, such as cropping, resizing, and color correction.

If you do not have access to any of the above software, you can also use an online image editor to view and edit your .PEF files. Websites such as Pixlr, Fotor, and BeFunky all allow you to upload your images and make changes to them in your browser.

No matter which method you use to open and view your .PEF files, it is important to note that the RAW format is not suitable for printing. If you want to print your images, you will need to use an image editor to convert the file to a more common format such as JPEG or TIFF.
