What is .PDI File and How can be Open into the Desktop?

A .PDI file is a Project Data Interchange file that contains project data, such as task information, cost estimates, and resource assignments. It is mainly used by project management applications such as Microsoft Project and Primavera.

PDI files are not designed to be opened directly in a desktop environment. However, it is possible to convert them to other formats such as MPX, the native format of Microsoft Project, and XML, which can then be opened in a text editor or spreadsheet application.

To convert a .PDI file to an MPX or XML file, you need to use a file conversion utility. There are several free utilities available online which can be used to quickly convert PDI files to other formats.

Once the PDI file is converted to an MPX or XML file, it can be opened in desktop applications such as Microsoft Office. For example, an MPX file can be opened in Microsoft Project, and an XML file can be opened in a text editor or spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel.

In addition, some project management applications may be able to directly import .PDI files. For example, Primavera can import .PDI files created in Microsoft Project.
