IGS- IGES File

What is .IGS File Format and How to Open it?

The .IGS file extension is used for the IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) file format. It is a file format used to store 3D product data in a neutral, platform-independent format. It is a CAD (Computer Aided Design) format that was developed in 1980 by the Initial Graphics Exchange Specification working group, which was made up of representatives from a number of different computer companies.

IGES files are commonly used in engineering and manufacturing to store 3D product data and to transfer 3D models between different CAD systems. They are also often used in product design, CAD/CAM systems, and 3D printing applications.

The IGS file format is based on the ANSI/ISO Standard 10303-21 and consists of a set of records that define the object data. Each record contains a record type, a record name, a parameter data field, and a delimiter character. The data fields can contain numerical data, text, or binary data.

To open an .IGS file, you will need a CAD or 3D modeling program that supports the IGES file format, such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Solidworks, or SketchUp. You can also use a file conversion tool to convert the file to a different 3D format, such as STL, OBJ, or 3DS.
